The #7 Porsche 997 GT3 R of Herberth Motorsport won the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO after having dominated most of the eight hours of the race run on Saturday. German drivers Robert Renauer, Alfred Renauer, Ralf Bohn, and Switzerland’s Daniel Allemann completed 342 laps of the 5.2 kilometer circuit in Tuscany. They won by 2 minutes over the #30 Mercedes SLS AMG of Ram Racing which was driven by Tom Onslow-Cole, Adam Christodoulou, and Paul White. The Mercedes lost the lead when it was caught in the pits during a Code 60 neutralization period which came about three hours into Part II of the race. Despite some strong driving, the Ram Racing drivers were unable to make up the deficit.
Third place overall and third in the A6 Pro class fell to the #9 Hofor Racing Mercedes of Michael Kroll, Chantal Kroll, Roland Eggimann, Kenneth Heyer, and Christiaan Frankenhout. The all-Porsche 997 class was won by the #7 Ruffier Racing team of Paul Lafargue, Gabriel Abergel, and Patrice Lafargue. They persevered in a tight fight with the #63 Porsche L’Orient Racing 997 Cup S. The #56 Classica Motors Porsche 991 Cup was third in class.
The #10 Hofor Racing Mercedes was a surprise winner in A6-Am when the #5 Car Collection Motorsport Mercedes suffered a late race suspension failure. The #10 Mercedes was driven by the same lineup as the teams’ third place overall #9 Mercedes. This result insures that the Hofor Racing team and drivers have made significant strides towards leading the various championship categories, including the lead of the Ladies Cup for Chantal Kroll.
NKPP Racing was the top team in A3T. Their #98 Seat Leon Cup Racer was driven by an ironman lineup of only two drivers, Harry Hilders and Roger Grouwels. The three Lebanese brothers, Razi, Nabil, and Sami Moutran along with Britain’s Phil Quaife, were second in A3T with their #95 Duel Racing Seat Leon Supercopa LR.Third in class was another Seat Leon Cup Racer, #100 of PCR Sport. That Spanish team had lost their second entry during a pre-race testing crash.
The ‪#‎91MARC‬ Cars Australia Focus rattled to victory in SP2 after being after having some bodywork and wheel problems. Keith Kassulke, Jake Camilleri, Peter Leemhui, and Ryan McLeod spent much time battling with their teammates in the #92 Focus. However, that car had even more troubles and dropped to third in class behind a steadier run by the #46 Car Collection Motorsport Porsche 997 Cup. The #96 LMS Engineering Audi TT RS2 had run strongly in SP2 for much of the race but had a late race gearbox failure.
Adrian Barwick, Bradley Ellis, and Flick Haigh won SP3 in the #163 Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G55. Another Ginetta, the #206 G50 of Nova Race, was second. This marked a good comeback for the marque as many of the Ginettas struggled earlier in the race. Third in class was the Aston Martin Vantage of Speedworks Motorsport, #170. The SP3 class was led for a long period by the #160 Cor Euser Racing Lotus Evora until it was stranded on course during the second half of the race.
The #115 K-Rejser Racing Peugeot RCZ took the top spot in A2. Driven by Adriano Stanco, Luigi Stanco, and Stefan Tanner, the team led for most of the race from the #138 KPM Racing Volkswagen Golf. As the #138 car was a diesel it takes top points for the D1 sub-class within A2. The Team Sally Racing Renault Clio fought back from an earlier deficit to also finish on the A2 podium.
The CUP1 class was composed of similarly prepared BMW M235i Racing types. Sorg Rennsport won thanks to the driving of Ulf Wickop, Anders Fjordbach, Maciej Dreszer, and Kevin Warum in the #71 entry while second place went to archrival Bonk Motorsport’s #73 BMW. The #68 Pricon Racing entry fell to third in class after having earlier fought for the lead.
Liesette Braams was on the driving strength in the #71 BMW which meant that three different women took four podium spots. The others were Chantal Kroll and Flick Haigh (1st in SP3). Kroll managed two great finishes, third overall and third in A6-Pro as well as first in A6-Am.
Hofor-Küpper Racing won the A5 class with the #75 BMW E46 M3 Coupe, driven by Bernd Küpper, Lars Zander, and Martin Kroll. They moved to the front after having repaired some crash damage. The #31 Duller Motorsport BMW had dominated the class for much of the day but had suspension and brake problems late during the race.
There were six Code 60 interruptions with two due to damage to the surface of the circuit. The end of the race almost coincided with sunset although a gradually lowering cloud cover prevented a view of the beautiful surrounding hills. The 24H Series powered by Hankook now moves on to Zandvoort in the Netherlands on 28-29 May. More information about the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook can be found at: www.24hseries.com

The #30 Ram Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 leads the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO after the completion of Part 1 of the 12 hour race. The top four finishers ended on the lead lap. Part 2, tomorrow morning, will start with each car’s lap totals intact but with the margins erased. This means that the top four teams will continue where they left off, side-by-side and nose-to-tail. Behind the leading Mercedes are the #7 HB Racing Team Herberth Porsche 997 GT3 R, the #66 Black Pearl Racing by Rinaldi Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, and the #67 GDL Racing Mercedes SLS AMG. The end of the four hour Part 1 marks the start of an overnight intermission. The race resumes with the final eight hour Part 2 beginning on Saturday morning at 09:30.

Pierre Kaffer, starting driver in the #66 Ferrari, led from pole position and held the spot until being passed on track by Robert Renauer in the #7 Porsche. These two teams, as well as the #30 Mercedes, traded the lead several times. Charles Espenlaub led briefly overall as his very frugal #20 MRS GT Racing 997 class Porsche car remained out longest of all the top cars. The #67 Mercedes also led for a period before the #66 Ferrari retook the top spot. It looked set to end Part 1 at the front until Alexander Volz had a spin and stalled momentarily. The A6-Am sub class was led by the #5 Car Collection motorsport Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 with a margin of more than one lap over the #10 Hofor Racing SLS AMG.

The contest in the all-Porsche 997 was a struggle between three teams. The #17 Ruffier Racing entry finished ahead of the two Porsche Lorient Racing entries, #63 ahead of #62. All finished on the same lap and will start together in the morning. The early leader in the class, the #20 MRS GT Racing 991 Cup, lost considerable time after spinning and stopping on course.

The SP2 class consists of silhouette specials and some faster production based cars. The Ford-bodied cars of MARC Cars Australia enjoyed a 1-2 in class at the intermission. The #92 MARC Focus leads over #91 MARC Focus by one lap while the #96 Audi TTRS 2 was a bit further back in third place.

The #160 Cor Euser Racing Lotus Evora had been able to maintain the lead in the SP3 class despite having lost time after tangling with a Mercedes. Second in class was the #163 Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G55. Several of the Ginettas in the race had a variety of mechanical problems.

The A3T class was closely fought. At the break it was led by the #98 NKKP Racing Seat Leon Cup Racer over the slightly older Seat model, the Supercopa, of Memac Ogilvy Duel Racing (#95). As they completed the same number of laps they will start with no gap between them when the race resumes.

The A5 production based class was led by the #31 Duller Motorsport BMW E46 M3 over the similar BMW of #75 Hofor-Küpper Racing. It marked a good come back for the Austrian team as they led the class early on, made a long stop, and returned to head A5.

The A2 class was led by the #115 K-Rejser Peugeot RCZ. A surprising second in class was the #135 Red Camel Seat Leon. It is actually part of a three-car D1 sub-class which is classified for the race under A2 but receive separate championship points. Third in A2 was the #126 Team Sally Racing Renault Clio and the next of the diesel cars was the #138 KPM Racing Volkswagen Golf.

The all-BMW CUP1 class featured a thrilling back and forth struggle between two cars. The #68 Pricon Racing M235i Racing ended up barely ahead of the similar #71 Team Securtal Sorg Rennsport entry. The two had swapped the top spot for most of the afternoon.

The end of Part 1 coincided with a beautiful Tuscan sunset and took place in perfect spring weather. The cars are placed into parc ferme overnight and may not be touched by the teams until the race resumes. There were 72 starters and only two retirements, the #3 Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW Z4 had overheating problems and the #87 GDL Racing Porsche Cup car crashed at Casanova Corner. There were two short neutralizations of the race in order to recover stranded vehicles. When the race resumes the cars will retain the number of laps completed during Part 1.

Racing resumes Saturday morning at 09:30 with the finish at 17:30 CET. Live Streaming of the entire race available on www.24hseries.com.
